Tap your brakes!
I wasn't happy when I learned that my car needed a major brake job. The mechanic shut me up quickly, though, when he said that brakes are the most important part of a car. "It doesn't matter how fancy or powerful your car is if you can't stop it when you're in danger," he said. The mechanic was right. It doesn't really matter how smart we are, or how powerful, or how wealthy, or how beautiful, if we can't stop ourself from falling into danger
See danger on the horizon?
Test your brakes so that you can apply them when needed.

Newman's first law: It is useless to put on your brakes when you're upside down.

Bruno's comment
Is someone trying to draw you into an argument? Tap your brakes to protect yourself and save the relationship. Or sometimes you just can't stop talking about yourself and this prevents you from having a clear understanding of what's happening around you. Tap your brakes – you are missing important information. When your child comes home too late and you start berating him, tap your brakes and ask for the reason. If you boss asks for your opinion, and you can't stop talking, tap your brakes and listen.
Angry? Need to let someone have it? Tap your brakes!
