Brasilians – what’s their secret?
I have family and good friends in Brasil. Whenever I visit there, I often wonder why the Brasilians are so attractive. Of course they are beautiful physically to begin with, but their secret is their omnipresent smile. It’s like a national flag. In contrast, when I walk in the street of my home city, Toronto, most people seem distant and have lost their smile.

Most of us don’t realize how important smiling is to our countenance. It changes our look and voice, lifts our mood, brings a twinkle to our eyes, and makes us more attractive. But if a simple gesture like this can make such a big difference, why don’t we use it more often? Good question!

If you’re not using your smile, you’re like a man
with a million dollars in the bank and no checkbook.

Of course life isn’t easy and fun all the time and we don’t always feel like smiling. But even if we have to force ourselves to smile, we should do it. It’s a great way to make other people, and ourselves, feel more comfortable. It uncramps us and miraculously brings about a positive attitude.

Nobody shows us the power of this better than a child: Smile at a child and you will get a smile right back. And here’s the best thing about a smile: It’s impossible to become angry when you’re smiling!

Are you smiling right now? Good for you! If not, pull up the corners of your mouth and you will immediately feel better. Do I hear you say this is an old gimmick? Maybe so, but it’s an incredibly powerful one!
