Gossip
Do you enjoy listening to gossip? Do you take pleasure in the misfortune of others? Be careful! If it turns you on, it will eventually turn on you. People who tell you stories about others will tell others stories about you. And they will add some invented details to make them juicier because the more scandalous their story is, the more they believe in their own fake importance.
Gossip can be very damaging. It can destroy friendships, break up marriages, and ruin businesses. So why should we take part in it? Is it so important to be popular, even if it’s at the price of others?
It isn’t what they say about you, it’s what they whisper.
- Errol Flynn
Gossip is a waste of time; it is never accurate, never reliable, and mostly fictional. And worse, the gossiper often shares the news with a smile, while stabbing others in the back.
When someone starts gossiping with me, I flatly refuse to listen and change the topic of discussion. When it happens in a group, I just shout “Gossip! Gossip! Gossip!” and that does it. I prefer to invest my time in more positive things. Why should I feed the gossiper’s desire for self-importance?
“Did you hear the latest about…?” No, thank you. Not interested.
