It can hurt!
Recently, while attending a funeral, I met some friends from years past. Some of them were my school buddies and I was surprised to see how old they looked. Aging had left its mark on them: they were wrinkled, had gray hair, and walked slowly. To see them like this was not pleasant.
And then, on the way home, it struck me with force that they must have thought the same of me! Old man? Wrinkles on my face? No hair? Moving slowly? Sometimes it hurts to see reality!
Wisdom comes by disillusionment.
- George Santayana
But I am not the only one who has had these thoughts. Here is a cute story from an unknown author:
Whenever I see people my age, I often think how old they look and how much they have aged. Recently I went to a new dentist and his name sounded familiar. Someone with his name went to school with me and he was a good-looking, nice and charming boy with beautiful black hair. But when I met the dentist, I just knew that couldn’t be him. He was an old man with deep wrinkles in his face and almost no hair
But to make conversation, I asked: “Did you by any chance go to the Albert Einstein college?” He was totally surprised and said: “Yes indeed, I was there …” “And in which year did you graduate?” I asked and when I had his answer I said: “Wow, you were in my class!” And then that ugly, fat, bald, and wrinkled old man asked me: “And which topic did you teach then?”
And how does your reality look? Can you accept it? Meditation will help you.
